Behaviour Mentor – Croydon – SEN School – 5-16 – ASAP Start – Long Term Role

Education First is recruiting an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist SEN School in Croydon, starting ASAP!

The successful Behaviour Mentor will provide dedicated support to pupils across KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4, helping young people manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and engage positively with education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or Support Worker looking for a long-term position within a specialist SEN environment.

The School

This specialist SEN school in Croydon supports pupils aged 5–16 with a range of special educational needs, including Autism / ASD and associated needs, alongside pupils who may experience challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health needs.

The school provides a highly supportive and structured environment, with a strong focus on individualised learning, emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour and developing pupils' independence. Staff work closely together to build positive relationships and help pupils feel safe, understood and able to engage with learning.

The Role – Behaviour Mentor

• As a Behaviour Mentor working within the SEN school, you will:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils both inside and outside the classroom

• Support pupils with ASD, SEMH, ADHD and challenging behaviour

• Help pupils manage their emotions and develop positive behaviour strategies

• Support pupils to regulate their behaviour and remain engaged with learning

• Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with pupils

• Provide academic, pastoral, emotional and behavioural support

• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience

• Use appropriate de-escalation and behaviour management techniques

• Support pupils during challenging or dysregulated situations

• Follow individual behaviour, learning and support plans

• Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND

• Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour

• Experience working with ASD, ADHD and SEMH

• Experience within an SEN school, specialist college, PRU, alternative provision or similar setting

• Experience providing 1:1 behavioural or pastoral support

• A calm, patient and resilient approach

• The ability to remain composed when managing challenging situations

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

• The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils

• A good understanding of safeguarding

• Experience supporting pupils with complex needs, emotional regulation difficulties, social and communication needs or trauma-related behaviours would also be advantageous.
