About the Role
Our client is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Category Buyer to join their procurement team within the FMCG sector, operating from their Edinburgh office with a hybrid working model. This role is responsible for sourcing and managing a specific category of products, ensuring competitive pricing, high quality, and reliable supply to meet business objectives. You will build strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate favourable terms, and drive value through category expertise. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of the procurement landscape within the FMCG industry and demonstrate strong analytical and negotiation skills to optimise sourcing strategies and contribute to profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category sourcing strategies aligned with business needs and market opportunities.
- Identify, evaluate, and select new suppliers, ensuring compliance with quality, ethical, and sustainability standards.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to achieve cost savings and enhance value.
- Manage existing supplier relationships, monitor performance, and address any supply chain issues.
- Conduct market analysis to stay informed about trends, risks, and new product developments within the category.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product development and operations, to ensure supply chain efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or buying , specifically within the FMCG sector .
- Proven track record of successful supplier negotiation and contract management.
- Strong understanding of sourcing processes, cost analysis, and risk management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with procurement software and ERP systems.
