About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented Chemical Engineer with expertise in polymer synthesis to join their dynamic team in Portsmouth . This role is crucial for advancing their polymer-based product lines through innovative process development and optimisation. You will be involved in both laboratory-scale research and plant-scale implementation, working to enhance the properties and manufacturing efficiency of advanced polymer materials. This hybrid position offers a great blend of collaborative on-site work and focused independent effort, contributing to significant technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise synthesis routes for novel polymer materials.
- Conduct laboratory experiments to explore new catalysts, monomers, and reaction conditions.
- Scale-up polymerisation processes from lab to pilot plant and commercial production.
- Characterise polymer properties and relate them to process parameters.
- Collaborate with product development teams to meet material specifications.
- Ensure processes are safe, sustainable, and cost-effective.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science/Engineering.
- 3-6 years of experience in polymer synthesis and process development.
- Knowledge of various polymerisation techniques (e.g., free radical, condensation, living polymerisation).
- Experience with polymer characterisation techniques (e.g., GPC, DSC, TGA).
- Familiarity with process simulation and scale-up principles.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach.
