About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented Chemical Process Engineer to join their pharmaceutical development team in Plymouth, Devon . This role is integral to the scale-up and optimization of chemical synthesis processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will be responsible for translating laboratory-scale procedures into robust, scalable, and compliant manufacturing processes, working within a highly regulated environment. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer passionate about pharmaceutical development to contribute to bringing life-saving medicines to market, working closely with a multidisciplinary team in the dynamic Plymouth region.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize chemical synthesis routes for APIs, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Conduct process hazard assessments and implement safety measures in compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards.
- Perform pilot-scale runs and troubleshoot process issues to ensure successful technology transfer to manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including batch records, SOPs, and validation protocols.
- Collaborate with analytical chemists, formulation scientists, and manufacturing personnel to achieve project milestones.
- Ensure all processes adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and relevant regulatory guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process development and scale-up within the pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong understanding of organic chemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics relevant to API synthesis.
- Familiarity with GMP regulations and validation principles in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Proficiency in process simulation and modeling software is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
