About the Role
Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Process Development Chemical Engineer to lead innovative projects within their advanced R&D facility located in scenic Plymouth, Devon . This role is central to translating laboratory discoveries into scalable, commercially viable chemical processes. You will spearhead process design, optimization, and piloting, working with cutting-edge technologies and a dedicated team of scientists and engineers. The position requires a proactive approach, deep technical expertise in chemical engineering , and a passion for driving sustainable innovation from concept to production. This role is based on-site in Plymouth , offering significant collaborative opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of new chemical processes from conceptual design through to pilot plant validation and scale-up planning.
- Perform detailed process design, including P&ID development, equipment sizing, and material and energy balances.
- Utilize process simulation software to model, analyze, and optimize process performance and economics.
- Conduct experimental studies in pilot plants to gather data for scale-up and process validation.
- Develop comprehensive technical reports, hazard assessments, and economic evaluations for new processes.
- Collaborate with research teams, manufacturing, and engineering departments to ensure successful technology transfer.
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering .
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in process development, scale-up, and pilot plant operations.
- Strong proficiency in process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD software.
- Expertise in reaction engineering, separation technologies, and process control strategies.
- Proven experience in leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a strong commitment to safety and sustainability.
