About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and proactive Chemical Process Safety Engineer to join their dedicated safety team in Reading . This critical role ensures that all chemical processes and operations adhere to the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for conducting hazard analyses, developing safety protocols, and driving a culture of safety across the organisation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles and is committed to minimising risks in a chemical manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international safety regulations and industry standards.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, performing root cause analyses and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide technical expertise and training on process safety to engineering and operational staff.
- Review process designs and modifications for safety implications before implementation.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in chemical process safety engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, such as Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), and Mechanical Integrity.
- Experience with conducting and facilitating PHAs.
- Familiarity with relevant safety standards and codes (e.g., OSHA, COMAH).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
