Cost Accountant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous Cost Accountant to join their established finance department in Nottingham . This role is essential for accurately tracking, analysing, and reporting on the costs associated with production and operations. You will play a vital role in inventory valuation, variance analysis, and providing crucial cost data to support pricing strategies and operational improvements. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of cost accounting principles within a manufacturing or production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Calculate and analyse manufacturing costs, including direct materials, direct labour, and overheads.
• Perform inventory valuation and reconciliation, ensuring accuracy of stock records.
• Analyse cost variances (material, labour, overhead) and investigate their root causes.
• Assist with the development of standard costs and budget preparation.
• Provide cost data and analysis to support pricing decisions and profitability assessments.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

Requirements

• Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA) with a focus on cost accounting.
• Proven experience in a Cost Accountant role, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, methods, and systems.
• Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
