Cost Accountant

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent and analytical Cost Accountant to join their manufacturing finance team in Portsmouth . This role is crucial for accurately tracking, analysing, and reporting on manufacturing costs to support pricing strategies, improve operational efficiency, and enhance profitability. You will work closely with production and supply chain teams to understand cost drivers and identify areas for cost reduction. This is an excellent opportunity for a cost-focused accountant to gain deep insights into a manufacturing environment and contribute directly to financial performance in a hands-on capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and improve cost accounting systems and procedures.
• Analyse manufacturing costs, including direct materials, direct labour, and overheads.
• Prepare detailed cost reports, variance analysis, and profitability studies.
• Assist with the annual budgeting and standard costing process.
• Support inventory valuation and reconciliation activities.
• Provide cost analysis to support product pricing and strategic decisions.

Requirements

• Accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, CIMA part-qualified or qualified) or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrable experience in a cost accounting or manufacturing finance role.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
