About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned and proactive Farm Manager to lead the operations of a mixed farm in the scenic Reading area. This pivotal role requires overseeing both arable crop production and livestock management, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and high standards across all farm activities. You will be responsible for managing budgets, leading a skilled team, implementing best practices in modern agriculture, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical knowledge, leadership capability, and a passion for agriculture, contributing to the farm's continued success and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of both arable and livestock enterprises, including crop planning, planting, harvesting, and animal husbandry.
- Supervise, train, and motivate farm staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage annual budgets, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation for maximum profitability.
- Implement and monitor modern farming techniques and technologies to enhance yields and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all agricultural, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of farm activities, production, and financial performance.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of farm machinery and equipment.
Requirements
- A degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related agricultural science is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 6 years of comprehensive experience in farm management, with proven experience in both crops and livestock.
- Strong knowledge of soil science, crop nutrition, pest and disease control, and animal welfare standards.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in farm financial management and record-keeping.
- A valid UK driving license is essential.
