About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Fiber Optic Splicer for a remote contract position, serving the Plymouth and surrounding areas. This role is essential for deploying and maintaining high-speed fiber optic networks. You will be responsible for accurately fusing optical fibers to ensure minimal signal loss and maximum network performance. This is a hands-on, field-based role that requires precision, expertise, and the ability to work independently to high standards, contributing directly to the expansion of reliable broadband infrastructure in the region. The remote nature of the role refers to the operational management and dispatch, with the work performed on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fiber optic splicing (fusion splicing) on various types of fiber cables.
• Prepare fiber optic cables for splicing, including stripping and cleaning.
• Test spliced fibers using OTDR and other testing equipment to verify quality and performance.
• Identify and troubleshoot faults within fiber optic networks.
• Install and terminate fiber optic connectors.
• Maintain accurate records of splicing and testing results.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Splicer with references.
• Proficiency with various types of fusion splicing machines and OTDR equipment.
• Strong understanding of fiber optic principles and best practices.
• Ability to read and interpret network design documents and cable schematics.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
