About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to focus on mine stability and ground support for their operations near Plymouth . This vital role involves assessing the geological and geotechnical conditions of mining sites to ensure the structural integrity and safety of excavations, slopes, and underground workings. You will conduct site investigations, analyze data, and provide recommendations for ground support systems and stability measures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in soil mechanics and rock mechanics, with practical experience in the mining sector, contributing to safe and reliable operations in Devon .
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, borehole logging, and laboratory testing.
- Analyze rock mass properties and slope stability using appropriate software and methodologies.
- Design and recommend ground support systems (e.g., bolting, meshing, shotcreting) for underground excavations.
- Assess the stability of open-pit slopes and waste dumps.
- Monitor ground movement and performance of support systems.
- Provide technical advice and support to mine planning and operations teams regarding geotechnical risks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with specific experience in the mining industry.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, Plaxis).
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and slope stability analysis.
- Experience with ground investigation techniques and interpretation of data.
- Ability to conduct field assessments and work on active mine sites.
