Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer specializing in mining applications to join their team in Belfast . This pivotal role involves assessing and managing the geological and engineering challenges associated with mining operations, ensuring the stability of excavations, waste disposal, and overall site integrity. You will conduct detailed site investigations, analyse geotechnical data, and provide expert recommendations to mitigate risks. This is a challenging opportunity for a seasoned professional to contribute to the safe and efficient development of mining projects in Northern Ireland , applying advanced engineering principles to complex subterranean and surface environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, drilling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyse soil and rock mechanics data to assess slope stability, ground support requirements, and excavation stability.
• Develop geotechnical designs for mine structures, tailings dams, and waste rock facilities.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations for construction and operation.
• Provide on-site technical support during construction and operational phases, addressing geotechnical issues.
• Monitor ground conditions and implement appropriate risk management strategies.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on the mining sector.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as FLAC , Plaxis , or GeoStudio .
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles as applied to mining.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
