About the Role
Our client is seeking a visionary and experienced science educator to lead the Science department as Head of Science at a progressive secondary school in Bristol . This leadership role requires an individual with a passion for science education, strong pedagogical expertise, and the ability to inspire both staff and students. The Head of Science will be responsible for the strategic direction, curriculum development, and operational management of all science subjects, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning. This is a key position within the school's senior leadership team, offering a significant opportunity to shape the future of science education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide inspirational leadership and strategic direction for the Science department , encompassing Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- Develop, implement, and review a dynamic and engaging Science curriculum that meets national standards and fosters student curiosity.
- Manage, support, and develop a team of science teachers and technicians, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous professional development.
- Oversee assessment strategies, examination preparation, and performance data analysis for all science subjects.
- Ensure the safe and effective use of science laboratories and resources, managing departmental budgets efficiently.
- Contribute actively to the wider strategic leadership and development of the school in Bristol .
Requirements
- A relevant degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Substantial experience teaching Science at secondary level, with a proven track record of academic success.
- Demonstrable leadership experience within a school science department or a similar educational setting.
- In-depth knowledge of science curricula, assessment frameworks, and pedagogical best practices.
- Excellent strategic planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
