About the Role
Our client is looking for a dedicated and proactive Health and Safety Officer to support their mining operations near Portsmouth . This role is essential for ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel involved in mining activities. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This is a crucial position for an individual committed to occupational safety within the challenging context of the mining industry, contributing to accident prevention and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems specific to mining operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing detailed reports and implementing preventative measures.
- Deliver health and safety training programs to employees at all levels.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international health and safety legislation and standards.
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and engagement with site personnel.
Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar Health and Safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safe systems of work.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
- Ability to work effectively on-site and contribute to office-based planning.
