About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Mine Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained at their mining operations near Portsmouth . This vital role involves implementing and enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and promoting a robust safety culture throughout the workforce. You will be instrumental in preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, making a tangible contribution to the well-being of all personnel on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific health and safety management systems.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, providing detailed reports and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training programs to all site personnel, including new starters and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage employee involvement in safety initiatives.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a safety-focused role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Thorough understanding of mining safety regulations and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage safety programs on site.
- Proficiency in incident investigation and reporting.
