About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mine Planning Engineer to join their forward-thinking team in Portsmouth . This role is instrumental in designing and optimizing both short-term and long-term mining plans to ensure efficient, safe, and profitable resource extraction. You will work closely with geological and operational teams to translate resource models into practical, executable mine schedules. The successful candidate will possess strong technical aptitude, a deep understanding of mining methods, and the ability to utilize advanced planning software to maximize resource recovery and operational efficiency within the competitive mining landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and update short-term and long-term mine plans, including production schedules, equipment requirements, and material movement strategies.
- Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineMax) to create detailed mine designs, layouts, and sequences.
- Collaborate with geological teams to integrate resource models into mine plans and optimize extraction sequencing.
- Perform feasibility studies and economic analyses for proposed mining projects and mine expansions.
- Ensure mine plans comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor operational performance against plans and recommend adjustments to optimize productivity and minimize costs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning, design, and operations within the mining industry.
- Proficiency in industry-standard mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, or similar.
- Strong understanding of open-pit or underground mining methods, depending on the specific operation.
- Knowledge of geological modeling, resource estimation, and their integration into mine plans.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
