Lead Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity in the energy sector , is seeking a proactive and experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to join their esteemed team in Belfast, Northern Ireland . This role is paramount to ensuring the integrity and safety of all operational processes, safeguarding personnel, the environment, and company assets. You will champion a strong safety culture, conduct rigorous risk assessments, and implement robust safety management systems across various facilities. This is a crucial position for a dedicated safety professional focused on achieving the highest standards in process safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive process safety management systems (PSM) in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and facilitate Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation and standards within the energy industry .
• Provide expert advice and training on process safety principles and practices to engineering and operational staff.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of safety-critical equipment and procedures.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the energy or petrochemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA , and quantitative risk assessment (QRA) techniques.
• Experience with safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and functional safety.
• Strong understanding of relevant international safety standards and regulations.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential for this role in Belfast .
