Marine Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Plymouth . This role is vital for the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems aboard marine vessels, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. You will work on a variety of projects, from new builds to refits, collaborating with naval architects, electrical engineers, and project managers. The hybrid nature of this role allows for essential on-site work at our facility and shipyards, combined with remote flexibility for analysis and documentation. Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify mechanical systems for marine applications, including propulsion, HVAC, and piping systems, adhering to maritime regulations and standards.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation using CAD software .
• Conduct performance analysis and calculations for marine mechanical systems, ensuring optimal efficiency and reliability.
• Liaise with shipyards, suppliers, and classification societies throughout the design, fabrication, and installation phases.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues encountered during sea trials, commissioning, or operational phases.
• Assist in the procurement of marine mechanical equipment and components, ensuring quality and compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related maritime engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with specific experience in the marine or offshore industry.
• Proficiency in CAD software and familiarity with marine engineering principles and regulations.
• Strong understanding of propulsion systems, power generation, and fluid dynamics relevant to marine environments.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and project coordination skills.
