About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their team in Portsmouth . In this hybrid role, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage applications, assessing applicant risk, and making sound decisions to approve or decline loans in accordance with company policies and regulatory guidelines. You will work closely with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth and efficient mortgage origination process. Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including income, assets, and credit history.
- Assess the risk associated with each loan application and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Make sound decisions to approve, deny, or counter-offer mortgage loans.
- Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and borrowers regarding loan status and requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with lending regulations, industry trends, and company policies.
- Identify and mitigate potential fraud risks in loan applications.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar lending role.
- Strong understanding of mortgage lending regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and loan origination systems.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to manage a high volume of applications while maintaining accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal teams and external parties.
