About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their team based in Southampton . In this vital role, you will be responsible for evaluating loan applications to determine their eligibility and risk profile, ensuring adherence to company guidelines and regulatory standards. You will play a key part in the mortgage lending process, making critical decisions that support both the applicant's financial goals and the company's risk management objectives. This on-site role requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of the mortgage market.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including income, assets, and credit history.
• Determine loan eligibility based on established underwriting guidelines and risk parameters.
• Assess property appraisals and title reports for potential risks or issues.
• Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with relevant federal and state regulations.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and requirements to loan officers and brokers.
• Maintain accurate and organized loan files and documentation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mortgage underwriter.
• Solid understanding of mortgage lending principles, regulations (e.g., RESPA, TILA), and underwriting guidelines.
• Proficiency in mortgage origination software and underwriting platforms.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
