Petroleum Geologist

About the Role

Our client seeks an experienced Petroleum Geologist to join their exploration and development team based in Cardiff . This role is crucial for identifying and evaluating new hydrocarbon prospects, as well as contributing to the understanding of existing fields. You will utilize advanced geological software and techniques to interpret seismic data, well logs, and core samples. The position offers a chance to work on diverse projects within the Oil & Gas industry , contributing directly to the company's resource base and strategic growth, in a location fostering scientific inquiry and geological insight.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic, well log, and core data to map subsurface geological structures and stratigraphy.
• Identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon traps and reservoirs.
• Develop geological models and contribute to basin analysis studies.
• Work closely with reservoir engineers and geophysicists on field development and exploration projects.
• Prepare geological reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in petroleum geology.

Requirements

• Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field; MSc or PhD preferred.
• Significant experience (5+ years) as a Petroleum Geologist in exploration or development roles.
• Proficiency with geological interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to integrate diverse datasets.
• Experience in the UK Continental Shelf or similar basins is advantageous.
