Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to join their dynamic research and development department in Sunderland . This role is critical for the development of innovative drug delivery systems and stable pharmaceutical formulations. You will be instrumental in translating scientific discoveries into viable medicinal products, working with a range of dosage forms. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in formulation science, excipient selection, and process development, coupled with a passion for innovation. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize novel pharmaceutical formulations for various dosage forms (e.g., oral solids, injectables, topicals).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to understand drug substance properties and excipient compatibility.
• Develop and execute experimental plans for formulation screening, stability testing, and process optimization.
• Characterize formulations using appropriate analytical techniques (e.g., particle size analysis, dissolution testing, microscopy).
• Prepare detailed technical reports, protocols, and documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate with analytical development, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs teams to ensure successful product development and scale-up.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Proven expertise in various dosage form development, particularly solid oral dosage forms and/or sterile products.
• Hands-on experience with formulation development techniques and associated analytical characterization methods relevant to drug product development.
• Strong understanding of physicochemical properties of drugs and excipients, and their impact on formulation performance.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to R&D challenges.
