About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Scientist with expertise in structural biology to join their leading research and development team in Bristol . This senior role is pivotal in elucidating the three-dimensional structures of key biological macromolecules and their complexes, which is fundamental to understanding disease mechanisms and designing targeted therapeutics. You will lead structural biology efforts, employ advanced biophysical and crystallographic techniques, and collaborate across disciplines to drive innovation in drug discovery. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct projects focused on determining the structure of proteins, protein-nucleic acid complexes, and other macromolecules using X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, and other biophysical methods.
- Develop and optimize expression and purification strategies for challenging protein targets.
- Oversee data collection, processing, and structure determination, employing state-of-the-art instrumentation and software.
- Interpret structural data in the context of biological function and drug discovery efforts.
- Mentor and guide junior scientists and technicians within the structural biology group.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in chemistry, biology, and pharmacology to advance research programs in Bristol .
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (7+ years) in determining protein structures using X-ray crystallography and/or Cryo-EM.
- Proven expertise in protein expression, purification, characterization, and biophysical techniques.
- Strong computational skills for structure analysis, modeling, and visualization.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to manage complex research projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
