About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer specializing in structural analysis and design to join their team, offering a remote work option based out of Bristol . In this senior role, you will lead the structural integrity assessment and design of critical mechanical components and systems, ensuring their safety, reliability, and performance under extreme conditions. You will provide expert technical guidance, mentor other engineers, and drive innovation in structural engineering methodologies. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the structural design and analysis of complex mechanical systems and components, ensuring compliance with safety factors and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement advanced FEA models to assess stress, strain, fatigue, and vibration characteristics.
- Provide expert technical consultation and direction to engineering teams on structural integrity matters.
- Define testing protocols and oversee validation activities to confirm design performance.
- Stay abreast of cutting-edge structural engineering techniques and software advancements.
- Collaborate with external partners and internal stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges.
Requirements
- PhD or MSc in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Solid Mechanics or Structural Engineering.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in structural analysis and mechanical design, ideally within high-risk industries.
- Expert-level proficiency in FEA software (e.g., ABAQUS, NASTRAN) and associated pre/post-processors.
- Deep understanding of material behavior, fracture mechanics, and failure analysis.
- Experience managing complex analysis projects and leading technical reviews.
- Proven ability to excel in a remote work environment, demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills.
