Process Development Chemist - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Development Chemist to join their expanding pharmaceutical manufacturing operations based in Coventry . This pivotal role focuses on optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the efficient and safe production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will be instrumental in ensuring robust, reproducible manufacturing processes that meet stringent regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in synthetic organic chemistry and a passion for translating laboratory-scale chemistry into successful industrial manufacturing, contributing to the vital supply chain of essential medicines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate chemical synthesis routes for pharmaceutical intermediates and APIs, focusing on safety, yield, and purity.
• Scale up laboratory processes to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales, identifying and mitigating potential scale-up challenges.
• Conduct process hazard analyses and implement necessary safety controls in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during manufacturing campaigns.
• Collaborate with engineers and production teams to ensure smooth technology transfer and efficient process implementation in the Coventry facility.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with a strong focus on synthetic or process chemistry.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Solid understanding of organic synthesis , reaction mechanisms, and analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, NMR).
• Experience with process safety assessments and scale-up principles.
• Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and manage multiple project priorities.
