About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Process Safety Chemical Engineer to join their essential safety team in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear . In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all operations, safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment. You will conduct thorough risk assessments, develop safety protocols, and champion a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) , including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust process safety management systems and procedures.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.
- Provide expert guidance and training to engineering and operations personnel on process safety principles and practices.
- Review process designs and modifications to ensure safety integrity and risk mitigation are adequately addressed.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety-focused discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of HAZOP methodologies , SIL assessments, and quantitative risk analysis (QRA).
- Familiarity with major process safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, COMAH).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing safety practices across departments.
