About the Role
Our client, a significant player in the industrial sector, is looking for a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols and ensure regulatory compliance at their facility in Sunderland . This role is crucial for maintaining a safe working environment and preventing incidents through rigorous risk assessment and management. You will work closely with operational and engineering teams to implement best practices in process safety, contributing directly to the well-being of employees and the integrity of operations in Tyne and Wear. This is an on-site position requiring active participation in daily operations and safety audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
- Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and programs.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry standards (e.g., COMAH).
- Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for safety-critical modifications.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to site personnel.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in process safety engineering, with a strong focus on hazard identification and risk assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM elements and industry best practices.
- Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
- Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the chemical or manufacturing industry in the Sunderland area is a plus.
