About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their well-established team in Reading . This role is central to providing expert ground engineering solutions for a wide range of civil and construction projects. You will be responsible for undertaking detailed geotechnical investigations, analysing soil and rock mechanics, and designing foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures. Working within a hybrid model, you will balance office-based analysis and design with site visits, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and economical ground engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, soil sampling, and in-situ testing.
- Perform detailed analysis of soil and rock mechanics data to determine ground conditions and engineering properties.
- Design foundations (shallow and deep), earthworks, retaining walls, and slope stability measures.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, interpretations, and recommendations.
- Provide technical support and advice to project teams, clients, and contractors during the design and construction phases.
- Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with relevant British Standards and Eurocodes.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy or contracting.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, or similar finite element analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Experience with site supervision of geotechnical investigations and construction works is advantageous.
