About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Geologist to support their upstream operations in Sheffield . This role is vital for providing real-time geological guidance during drilling operations, ensuring wellbore integrity, formation evaluation, and optimal well placement. You will work closely with drilling engineers and geophysicists to interpret geological data, make critical decisions at the rig site, and manage geological risks. This is a hands-on position that requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of drilling operations, and the ability to react effectively under pressure. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximizing hydrocarbon recovery and ensuring the safety and efficiency of drilling campaigns within the challenging oil and gas environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide geological oversight and support during drilling operations, including real-time formation evaluation.
- Interpret well logs, cuttings, and core data to identify lithology, reservoir characteristics, and potential hazards.
- Make critical decisions regarding well trajectory, casing points, and drilling fluid properties based on geological data.
- Collaborate with drilling engineers to ensure optimal wellbore placement and minimize drilling risks.
- Prepare daily geological reports and participate in operational meetings to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Assist in the planning and preparation of future drilling campaigns, contributing geological insights.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as an operations geologist or in a similar role within the oil and gas industry.
- Proven experience in real-time formation evaluation and geological decision-making during drilling.
- Strong knowledge of well logging techniques, core analysis, and geological modeling.
- Familiarity with drilling operations, wellbore stability, and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
