About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their dedicated team at a secondary school in Leeds . This crucial role involves leading and managing the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the support necessary to achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teaching staff, parents, external agencies, and the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement effective SEND strategies and policies. This position is ideal for an individual with a passion for inclusive education and a commitment to ensuring every student thrives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the school's SEND policy and provision, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
• Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND support program, including the management of SEND staff and resources.
• Liaise with parents/carers, teachers, and external professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to meeting student needs.
• Oversee the assessment of students' needs and the creation and review of Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.
• Provide guidance and training to school staff on SEND matters to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Requirements

• A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE) with QTS, or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
• The National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to achieving it).
• Significant experience working with students with a range of SEND in a school setting.
• In-depth knowledge of current SEND legislation and best practice.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
