About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their vibrant school community in Sunderland . This is a vital on-site role where you will lead and manage the provision for students with special educational needs, ensuring they receive the support necessary to thrive academically and personally. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the implementation of the school's Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy.
• Coordinate the day-to-day provision for students with SEN, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
• Liaise with parents, teachers, external specialists, and other professionals to provide holistic support.
• Oversee the development, implementation, and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Monitor the progress of students with SEN and provide guidance to teaching staff on appropriate support strategies.
• Ensure compliance with national legislation and guidance relating to SEN.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
• Proven experience in a teaching role, with a significant portion focused on supporting students with SEN.
• Completion of a recognized SENCO qualification or a willingness to undertake one.
• In-depth knowledge of national SEN legislation and best practices.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
