Telecommunications Engineer - Fibre Optic

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Engineer with a focus on Fibre Optic technologies to join their team in Derby, Derbyshire . This hybrid role involves a combination of on-site installation, testing, and maintenance activities, alongside remote network monitoring and planning. You will be responsible for the deployment and upkeep of high-speed fibre optic networks, ensuring robust connectivity and performance for our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge telecommunications infrastructure in a role that offers both field and remote responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fibre optic cables according to industry best practices.
• Perform optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) and optical power meter testing to ensure signal integrity.
• Diagnose and resolve faults within fibre optic networks, including troubleshooting and repair.
• Configure and test telecommunications equipment, including routers, switches, and optical network terminals (ONTs).
• Document network layouts, test results, and installation details accurately.
• Provide remote support and monitoring of network performance, responding to alerts and incidents.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fibre Optic Engineer or Telecommunications Technician.
• Proficiency in fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Knowledge of telecommunications network architectures and protocols.
• Familiarity with OTDR and optical power meter operation.
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and schematics.
• Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel, combined with the ability to work effectively remotely.
