Viticulturist

About the Role

Our client, a prominent vineyard in the Edinburgh region, is seeking an expert Viticulturist to manage their grape cultivation operations. This role is critical to producing high-quality grapes for wine production, requiring a deep understanding of grape varietals, soil science, climate influence, and vineyard management techniques. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the vineyard, from planting and canopy management to pest control and harvesting, ensuring optimal fruit quality and yield. The successful candidate will be passionate about viticulture and committed to excellence in wine grape growing.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, trellising, and canopy management.
• Monitor vineyard conditions for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies, implementing timely treatments.
• Manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal water use and plant health.
• Plan and execute harvesting operations to ensure grapes are picked at peak ripeness.
• Conduct soil and climate analysis to inform vineyard management decisions.
• Maintain detailed records of vineyard activities, inputs, and yields.

Requirements

• Degree in Viticulture, Horticulture, or a related agricultural science field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in vineyard management.
• Strong knowledge of grape varietals , rootstocks, and their adaptation to specific climates.
• Experience with integrated pest management (IPM) and sustainable vineyard practices.
• Proficiency in using vineyard equipment and relevant technology.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail in vineyard operations.
