About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Viticulturist to lead vineyard operations on their premium wine estate located in the picturesque countryside near Edinburgh . This role requires a deep understanding of grape growing, soil science, and sustainable vineyard management to produce high-quality grapes for exceptional wines. You will be responsible for all aspects of the vineyard, from planting and canopy management to pest control and harvesting, working closely with the winemaking team to ensure the optimal expression of the terroir. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all vineyard activities, including pruning, training, canopy management, and shoot thinning.
- Implement sustainable viticulture practices to ensure soil health, water management, and biodiversity.
- Monitor vine health, identify and manage pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Plan and manage irrigation systems to optimize vine growth and grape quality.
- Coordinate and supervise vineyard staff, ensuring efficient execution of tasks throughout the growing season.
- Manage the harvest process, ensuring optimal fruit ripeness and quality for winemaking.
Requirements
- Degree in Viticulture, Oenology, Horticulture, or a related agricultural science.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in vineyard management.
- In-depth knowledge of grape varietals suitable for the Scottish climate and vineyard operations.
- Proficiency in soil analysis, pest and disease management, and irrigation techniques.
- Experience in managing vineyard teams and seasonal labor.
- A passion for quality winemaking and understanding the link between vineyard practices and wine characteristics.
