Viticulturist - Vineyard Management

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Viticulturist to manage their growing vineyards located near Plymouth, Devon . This crucial role involves overseeing all aspects of grape cultivation, from soil preparation and vine planting to canopy management and harvest. You will be dedicated to producing high-quality grapes for winemaking, employing sustainable practices and innovative techniques to optimize vineyard health and yield. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement annual vineyard management plans, including pruning, training, and canopy management.
• Monitor vine health, soil conditions, and weather patterns, making timely interventions.
• Manage pest, disease, and weed control using integrated and environmentally sound methods.
• Oversee irrigation systems and nutrient application programs.
• Plan and manage grape harvesting operations to ensure optimal ripeness and quality.
• Maintain detailed records of all vineyard activities, inputs, and yields.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Viticulture, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field.
• Significant practical experience in vineyard management or similar horticultural operations.
• Strong understanding of grape varietals, soil science, and cool-climate viticulture.
• Proficiency in vineyard machinery operation and maintenance.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in monitoring vine health and grape quality.
