About the Role
Our client is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Horticulturalist to manage and maintain their extensive gardens and grounds in Southampton . This role involves cultivating a wide variety of plants, ensuring the aesthetic appeal and health of the landscape, and contributing to the overall horticultural strategy. You will be responsible for planting, pruning, irrigation, pest and disease management, and the supervision of junior gardening staff. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a green thumb and a strong understanding of plant science to contribute to beautiful outdoor spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, plant, and maintain flower beds, shrubs, trees, and lawns according to horticultural best practices.
- Manage irrigation systems, ensuring plants receive adequate water throughout the year.
- Identify and treat plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies using appropriate methods.
- Prune and shape plants to maintain health, appearance, and encourage growth.
- Operate and maintain horticultural machinery and tools safely and efficiently.
- Supervise and guide a team of gardeners, providing training and support in horticulture .
Requirements
- A formal qualification in Horticulture, Botany, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven practical experience in garden maintenance and plant care.
- Knowledge of a wide range of plant species, their growing requirements, and common problems.
- Experience with landscape design principles and garden maintenance techniques.
- Proficiency in using horticultural equipment, including mowers, strimmers, and pruning tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
