About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Horticulturalist to manage and develop beautiful green spaces within a renowned botanical garden in Leeds . This role requires a deep understanding of plant care, cultivation techniques, and garden design. You will be responsible for the planning, planting, and maintenance of diverse plant collections, ensuring their health, aesthetic appeal, and conservation value. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to lead a small team of garden staff in creating and maintaining outstanding horticultural displays.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, plant, and maintain a variety of plant collections, including ornamental gardens, specialist plant areas, and display beds.
- Implement effective watering, feeding, and pest/disease control strategies for optimal plant health.
- Contribute to garden design and development projects, including new planting schemes and landscape enhancements.
- Supervise and guide junior horticultural staff, volunteers, and contractors.
- Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
- Educate visitors about plant species, horticultural practices, and the importance of plant conservation.
Requirements
- A relevant qualification in Horticulture, Botany, or a related field.
- Proven hands-on experience in professional horticulture or garden management.
- Extensive knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and propagation techniques.
- Experience with garden design principles and landscape implementation.
- Ability to operate horticultural machinery and hand tools.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
