Horticulturalist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Horticulturalist to manage and maintain their extensive gardens and plant collections in Cardiff, Wales . This role involves the cultivation, care, and propagation of a diverse range of plant species, ensuring the highest standards of horticultural practice and presentation. You will be responsible for garden planning, planting schedules, pest and disease control, and supervising a small team of garden staff. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and manage planting schemes and garden maintenance programs.
• Cultivate and care for a wide variety of ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs.
• Identify and manage common garden pests and diseases using integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
• Operate and maintain horticultural machinery and tools safely and effectively.
• Supervise and guide horticultural assistants and volunteers, ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard.
• Contribute to the propagation of plants and the development of new planting initiatives.

Requirements

• Recognised qualification in Horticulture, such as RHS Level 3 or equivalent.
• Practical experience in garden management and plant care.
• Strong knowledge of plant identification, soil science, and propagation techniques.
• Ability to diagnose and treat plant health issues.
• Experience in using garden machinery and hand tools.
• Good communication and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
