About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Horticulturalist to manage and maintain diverse horticultural operations in Portsmouth . This role involves planning, planting, cultivating, and caring for a wide range of plants, from ornamental gardens to potentially crop production, depending on the specific site. You will be responsible for ensuring the health and aesthetic appeal of horticultural areas, implementing best practices in plant care, pest management, and soil enrichment. This position is ideal for an individual with a passion for plants and a strong understanding of horticultural science and techniques, contributing to beautiful and productive green spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and implement planting schemes for various horticultural areas.
• Cultivate and care for a diverse range of plants, including trees, shrubs, flowers, and potentially edible crops.
• Manage soil health through appropriate fertilization, mulching, and soil amendment techniques.
• Identify and treat plant diseases, pests, and weeds using integrated pest management strategies.
• Operate and maintain horticultural equipment, such as mowers, strimmers, and pruning tools.
• Supervise and train junior horticultural staff or volunteers as required.

Requirements

• Professional qualification or extensive experience in Horticulture , Botany, or a related field.
• Proven experience in plant identification, cultivation, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of soil science, plant nutrition, and pest/disease control methods.
• Experience operating and maintaining horticultural machinery and tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A keen eye for detail and a passion for plant care and garden design.
