About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Golf Course Superintendent to manage their prestigious course in Birmingham . This role demands a blend of horticultural expertise, operational management, and leadership to ensure the course remains in pristine condition year-round, meeting the highest standards expected by members and visitors. You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, long-term planning, and strategic development of the golf course, including turfgrass management, irrigation systems, pest and disease control, and staff supervision, all within a budget, championing sustainable practices and innovation in course management, and fostering a safe and productive working environment for your team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, aeration, and irrigation, ensuring superior turf quality.
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the golf course, controlling expenditures effectively.
- Lead, train, and motivate a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
- Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies and environmentally sound practices.
- Plan and execute course renovation and improvement projects, collaborating with course architects and management as needed.
- Operate and maintain all golf course machinery and equipment, ensuring they are in excellent working order.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Assistant or Golf Course Superintendent.
- Certification from a recognized turfgrass management program or equivalent experience.
- Extensive knowledge of turfgrass species, soil science, irrigation systems, and pest/disease control.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, personnel, and equipment effectively.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A passion for golf and a commitment to maintaining world-class playing conditions in Birmingham .
