About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent and proactive Mine Safety Officer to join their operational team in the Birmingham area, working a hybrid schedule. This vital role ensures the health and safety of all personnel involved in mining activities, from operational sites to administrative functions. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety protocols and procedures, fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization. This position requires a hands-on approach, with a balance between on-site inspections and remote administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and enforce site-specific health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of mining operations and facilities.
- Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels of the organization.
- Maintain accurate records of safety performance, inspections, and training activities.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including COSHH, RIDDOR, and HASAWA.
Requirements
- NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Proven ability to conduct risk assessments and develop effective safety management systems.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
- Ability to work effectively both on-site and remotely.
