About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their busy lending department in Plymouth . This role is essential in assessing loan applications to determine credit risk and ensure compliance with company and regulatory guidelines. You will analyze applicant financials, property valuations, and credit histories to make sound lending decisions. This is a critical position within the mortgage origination process, offering a stable career in the financial services industry and the chance to contribute to helping clients achieve homeownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate mortgage loan applications, assessing borrower creditworthiness and risk.
- Analyze applicant financial documents, including income verification, asset statements, and credit reports.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with internal policies, lending guidelines, and relevant regulations (e.g., TILA, RESPA).
- Approve or deny loan applications, or request additional information or conditions as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and processors regarding loan decisions and requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in mortgage lending regulations and industry best practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Finance or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a related loan processing/underwriting role.
- Thorough understanding of mortgage lending principles, credit analysis, and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state lending regulations.
- Proficiency in using mortgage underwriting software and systems.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
