About the Role
Our client, a prestigious theatre company based in Aberdeen , is seeking a highly creative and experienced Senior Theatre Lighting Designer . You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing the lighting for all main stage productions. This pivotal role requires a deep understanding of theatrical aesthetics, technical capabilities, and a passion for bringing stories to life through light. You will collaborate closely with directors, set designers, and production teams to ensure a cohesive and impactful visual experience for the audience, contributing significantly to the artistic vision of the company's diverse repertoire and maintaining the highest standards of technical execution within their acclaimed venue.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop innovative lighting concepts that align with the artistic direction of each production.
- Create detailed lighting plots, cue sheets, and equipment specifications for all shows.
- Oversee the installation, focusing, and programming of lighting equipment during the technical rehearsal period.
- Collaborate effectively with directors, set designers, and other creative team members to achieve desired artistic outcomes.
- Manage the lighting budget and ensure efficient use of resources and equipment.
- Mentor junior lighting designers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and skilled team environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Lighting Designer in a professional theatre setting, with a portfolio showcasing a range of productions.
- Strong understanding of lighting theory, colour theory, and stagecraft techniques.
- Proficiency with industry-standard lighting software and hardware (e.g., ETC Eos consoles, Vectorworks, Lightwright).
- Ability to interpret scripts and conceptualize lighting moods and effects.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing budgets and technical teams.
