Watersports Instructor (Sailing & Kayaking)

About the Role

Our client seeks an energetic and experienced Watersports Instructor to lead sailing and kayaking activities at their coastal activity center in Plymouth, Devon . This exciting role involves delivering high-quality instruction to individuals and groups of all ages and abilities, ensuring safety is paramount at all times. You will foster a fun and adventurous atmosphere, helping participants develop new skills and gain confidence on the water. The ideal candidate has a passion for watersports, excellent instructional abilities, and a strong commitment to safety management in a dynamic seaside environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and safe sailing and kayaking lessons and taster sessions according to RYA and British Canoeing standards.
• Ensure all participants understand and adhere to safety procedures and best practices on and off the water.
• Manage and maintain watersports equipment, ensuring it is in safe and good working order.
• Develop and adapt lesson plans to suit varying group sizes, ages, and skill levels.
• Supervise participants during activities, providing encouragement and expert guidance.
• Assist with general site duties and contribute to the overall positive experience for visitors to the Plymouth centre.

Requirements

• Relevant National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications for Sailing (e.g., RYA Dinghy Instructor) and Kayaking (e.g., British Canoeing Level 1/2 Coach).
• First Aid certification (valid and recognized).
• Previous experience instructing sailing and kayaking in a commercial or outdoor education setting.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and water safety management.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to engage participants in Devon .
